What others green plantations of what another city have hundreds of millions or milliards of inhabitants of the planet ever seen by their own eyes? Not any. And New York's Central Park was seen by them. You see Central Park: was acted in more than 170 films and the production of Hollywood is sold all over the world. And what other Hollywood actor can brag of his cinematographic career that began in 1908 when they took "Romeo and Juliet" in the park and he does it till today? How many different names this decoration of New York has got! They called Central Park New York's pride and hands created miracle, the work of art and even the paradise on earth. The everyday used names "oasis" and "green lights of New York" fully answer to the reality though they made one's mouth sore. They breathe in Central Park as lightly as in the country (out of the town). The hottest day temperature is some degrees cooler in the park than in the city streets. Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USA awarded Central Park the title of the "national historical monument". Central Park (Central Park of NYC) is only one of all parks of the country which was awarded this title. And more, Central Park is named the "core of a large apple": this fruit of the tree of cognition of good and evil is a symbol of the city on the banks of the Hudson. Ask a New-Yorker what is Central Park for him, and he will begin to swear love for 843 acres of the protected nature in the centre of the city from which you simply wait nothing. To "live side by side with such a park - this is God's benediction", - the historian of New York Kenneth Jackson considers. "In this town people have so much anxieties. But you come to Central Park and the pacification comes to you", - Sarah Elliott says. Sarah Elliot is in charge of the bird population of the park. More than 200 kinds of birds nest here. The name of this park-Central Park-tells about itselfWhen the inhabitant of New York says a "city", he means Manhattan, as though there are no in the world other cities and other four parts of the megapolicy - Brooklyn, Bronx, Kuntz and Staten-Island . When the inhabitant of New York says a "park" he means Central Park, as though there are no 1700 large and small parks and public gardens in this megapolicy. Such are "stone jungles", where 26,8 per cent of the expensive city earth is given to lawns and trees there. By the way, New York occupies the first place in America in planting trees and shrubs. But Central Park takes only the fifth place in sizes. But exactly it is a Park. The nature did not participate in the creation of the landscape corner in the center of Manhattan. It is the creation of a man who surpassed the nature. "A park is seemed natural, because everything is real here: real earth, real grass, real trees, real water and flowers. But everything is created really artificially in Central Park. As a matter of fact there is more from Hollywood in the park than from Mother-nature", a historian Sara Cedar Miller,- the author of the book "Central park - American masterpiece" thinks. The Southern part of Central Park was opened for inhabitants of New York who walked to stare at its construction in winter 1859 and first they arranged a skating rink in the Pond (it was its proper name). One hundred years later Holden Kolfild ("Above a precipice in the rye"), thought where the ducks went in winter. The ducks are the masters in the Pond in summer. In 1865 the civil war was over and Eight years were left before the official opening of Central Park. At that time 7 million persons visited the park every year. Nowadays 25 million persons visit it a year. There is everything for everybody in Central Park of NYCIn winter you can skate here, and when there is much snow you can toboggan. All the year you can jog. In summer you can have a boat trip in the middle of the Lake (also the proper name) and fish (but, catching fish, you have to let it go to swim in the lake). You can gather mushrooms (it is not necessary to plant them back). In Central Park of NYC you can feed squirrels and birds, fly kites, toss a plate and a boomerang, lie on the grass, have picnics and weddings, sunbathe, and play baseball. In Central Park of NYC you can listen to the best pop singers and organize the mass meetings gathering so many people like a concert with 100 thousand spectators. In summer you can go to see Shakespeare's plays. You can ride a bicycle or a horse and send toy-ships off in the ponds, take part in the excursion about the park or stroll alone, read a book and paint pictures, stare at passers-by and simply do nothing. You do anything you like. Everything is free of charge, including a theatre but it is important to buy a ticket in time: there are many those who wish it, but more than two tickets are not given to a person). You must pay only for the hire of saddle-horses, for journeys by horse carriages, for merry-go-rounds and for visiting the zoo. Going to a museum it is not necessary to count money in a pocket. The announcement in a foyer says: "You can pay for your entrance so much as you like, but you must pay something. The offered payment is 12 dollars". Every year, certainly, the payment increases, but a cashier will not look reproachfully, if a visitor who likes the art will give only one penny (so one cent coin is called). Maybe, it doesn't come to, but they give a dollar without ceremony. They receive a badge in an exchange for a dollar. It gives a right to entree the museum and many visitors give much more a stipulated sum without ceremony, helping the art within their powers. The colour of the badge is saved till the end of a day, and you can come into the Central Park's museum as much as you like all the day. In order to take a bite in the park, it is not necessary to go to a famous "Pub on a lawn" and to pay one or two hundred dollars for it. First, you may bring your sandwich yourself. Secondly, there are a lot of sellers of hot-dogs, shashliks, ice-creams and fried chestnuts in the park. They have various soft drinks. There are 125 fountains with a drinking-water which is free of charge. The number of sellers is not exactly calculated, it is known only, that they are about fifty. The number of benches in Central Park is known absolutely exactly - 8968, and, if you put them in a row, it will be seven miles. The bench can be... "adopted". If you pay for it from 7500 to 25000 dollars, it will become your property. Of course everybody can sit on it, and as for you, you give your help to the park. A tree can be "adopted" for 1000 - 100 000 dollars. It depends on what tree it is. In general an annual budget of the park is 20 million dollars. Kenneth Jackson, a professor of the Columbian university and a president of the New York historical society testifies that though Central park is free of charge, it pays for itself perfectly well. The prices on the real estate around Central Park are so high because of the nearness to this green oasis. Tax incomes from a property had already exceeded all expenses some years later after completion of Central Park construction. But there are no various latest fashion - entertainments in the park. Everything has been keeping the same in Central Park, since its official opening-day 130 years ago. There is not even a wheel of review. To admire Central Park from a height, you need to climb on the sky-scraper of "Empire State Building", which is in Fifth Avenue between 33rd and 34th streets. From here they can see not only Central Park but New York is entirely visible too. This sky-scraper was built in 1931. "So many things in New York are changed, - Professor Jackson says. There are other buildings, other people. But Central Park is the same, since it has been created".Central Park HotelsNew York - King of the Hill more... By David Urmann
